If you want somewhere sheltered, the Mangawhai estuary is a beautiful tidal inlet, safe for water sports like kayaking and water skiing. When the tide is full, you can wade out into the warm sea for several metres. It is the perfect spot to teach youngsters to swim.
If you enjoy walking, don't forget to check out the coastal walkways. There is a five kilometer walkway at the northern end of Mangawhai Beach, scaling clifftops, farmland and bush areas, with astounding views of Bream Head, the Hen and Chicken Islands and Little Barrier.
These islands offer an abundance of excellent fishing spots where you can catch snapper or even an elusive kingfish or two.

The 18 hole Mangawhai Golf Course is regarded as one of the best in New Zealand.
It offers a demanding mixture of wide and narrow fairways, and undulating greens landscaped in a beautiful setting surrounded by native bush and wetlands that attract a wide range of bird life.

Nestled in the gorgeous Mangawhai countryside you will find vineyards and olive groves, as well as a truffle farm and chocolaterie. You can even do a wine cycling tour if you want!
Or simply stroll the Mangawhai township, with its abundance of cafes, bars and galleries.
